Who We Are
Sandra Small opened her art gallery in historic, renovating Covington at 124 W Pike Street in March, 2008. In July, 2008, she asked independent curator/critic/collector Daniel Brown to curate all the shows at the Gallery.
The Gallery showcases the finest in contemporary painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and handmade jewelry. During its first season, approximately 70 % of the artists who have exhibited there live and work in Greater Cincinnati. By the 2011-12 season, 50% of the artists will come from across America and from other countries.
Exhibitions are theme-based (Insider/Outsider: Alternative views of America; Theatrical Figuration; The Contemporary Sublime: Asian-based Landscapes) and the gallery specializes in the work of both mature artists and emerging artists. Excellence of craft and work of narrative explication predominate. Shows change every four to six weeks and are interspersed with events. The Future of Fashion Photography introduced a twenty-three year old Dallas photography phenomenon, while bringing area photographers together to meet, discuss, and act as “paparazzi”.
Amongst the Small Gallery artists are some who have exhibited nationally and internationally (Donald Holden; Valerie Shesko; Bukang Kim). Others, like Jakob Fakheri of Dallas, Scott Small of Maine, Matt Egan of North Carolina are just starting their careers. Twenty-eight year old Emil Robinson, whose work was featured in our April double group show, was showcased in a one-person exhibition at The Taft Museum in 2009 and received a "Finalist" rating at the National Portrait Competition at the Smithsonian Museum in New York.
The Gallery works with area businesses and professionals to enhance their work spaces through carefully selected artwork which entends and enhances their branding.
Sandra Small Gallery provides the finest artwork at competitive prices and has access to framing, installation and delivery services.
